Strive for Difference, Or Be a Replica???

I was wondering as I take this journey into sound...

Is it better to strive and create your own sound that is different from anyone else in the world or is it great to repeat what's already there? I at times get very displease at hearing the same type of track over and over... You even got people who market that tracks saying that it's a track like someone in mainstream.. and you wonder why you are not getting sales? or contracts....

I'm thinking in terms of marketing>> How can you market something that's already there?

We have all the mainstream artist of all the genres making great music and some people think that they have to mimic what the mainstreamers do to make it...

Let me tell you; everybody is looking for the next big thing and that big thing is not identical to what is present... So I say this to challenge you to create, to compose, to venture inside yourself and put "YOU" into your sound and not "THEM"

I feel being different and creating a sound that is all your own seperates you from everyone. Some may not think it's popular until it hits mainstream, but you can rest and live with your heart knowing you made it because you dared to be different, you dared to take a chance on "YOUR" music.

I want to thank everyone for there input on this... Everyone's comment is much respected and I respect the educated professionalism discussed.

In all I guess I have to work harder, I want to develop something new in various genres or even mix two genres that has never been done before...

I want to leave the world gasping!!!

But the beasties were hardly original. They wouldnt' ahve survived with Mixmaster mike (imho). They seem to use the same raps over and over again.

Realistically you can only be different when you're already established so I'd say be a replica until people know and respect you then show your originality afterwards

I love difference - I love being different... thats why when I listen to a track on my ipod, there are 2 things that please me - the track itself and the fact that I am the only one in my surroundings listening to it :-)
